Google Instant is a major overhaul of Google search in that they seek to lessen the time people spend typing in their search queries by trying to guess what the user wants — one letter at a time.
What they say:
“Google Instant is a new search enhancement that shows results as you type. We are pushing the limits of our technology and infrastructure to help you get better search results, faster. Our key technical insight was that people type slowly, but read quickly, typically taking 300 milliseconds between keystrokes, but only 30 milliseconds (a tenth of the time!) to glance at another part of the page. This means that you can scan a results page while you type. ”

Yep just put in a first letter — like F — surprise, it comes up with Facebook. If your business starts with an F do you think you will be found EVEN IF someone was looking through search?

In my opinion this is not a matter of speed, it is a matter of killing off searches for services or businesses that people may actually be looking for.
<sigh>
