SEO - Meta Tags

There have been reports that some meta tags are dead and yet other reports that they are not. Recently I read that meta tags are alive and well, and making a come-back (depending on the search engine they weren't gone).

One really important point I read today at my fav forum www.webproworld.com, was that "Sites with generic, or absence of, meta-description tags, may find themselves going supplemental, or simply not showing properly for their content." This would of course cover the Title tag.

Chris, one of the Admins at Web Pro World stated "even Matt Cutts, Tim Mayer, Greg Boser (the best speaker about SEO, IMO) and Heather Lloyd-Martin said make sure your meta tags are well-written. They do not, however, need to be stuffed with keywords and phrases."
