Meta Tags - Yes They Need To Be Different

One common mistake web site owners make is not having different and specific set of meta tags for each and every page. This is a very important issue, though certainly misunderstood by many online businesses.

Many business owners will spend a great deal of time working to create their website with a web designer yet spend very little time looking at what key words and key phrases should be in their meta tags, per page. Why per page? Your content is different on each page (or it certainly should be) and the meta tags need to reflect what is in your content. Google states this in their Webmaster Guidelines.

Have A SEO Question? I Did!

I have been working on a revamp of a website and my client was very concerned that the site traffic had dropped considerably over the mid-summer months, which is the sites most productive time. I did all sorts of checking and could not come up with anything that really jumped out at me as a huge error that would cause this kind of a problem. Yes the content was stale, some of the meta tags incorrect, and other issues, but nothing that should make it suddenly drop as it did. So I went to the place I always go to when I know I can count on a wealth of knowledge from so many professionals. Web Pro World! http://www.webproworld.com

Over the past 24 hours I have to say the biggest help has been a man who calls himself "Webnauts". He is a moderator at Web Pro World. I assume he does not want to use his real name 'cause no doubt people would message him questions and he would never get any of his own work done. I did notice that he has a Web Directory - check it out here: http://directory.webnauts.net

**Update** Webnauts was kind enough to pass on his information to me. His name is John and read more about him here http://www.webnauts.net/curriculum.html Thanks John!!

Anyways, one thing that 'Webnauts' showed me was by trying to create a Google Map can actually show you reams of errors on a website. This is incredibly helpful when trying to figure out a problem, but even more so when solving problems before they crop up. To create a Google Map go here: http://www.sitemapdoc.com/Default.aspx He also gave me a link to check for broken links here: http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html

It is such a joy that we can all share information. Thank you Webnauts - and - Web Pro World!

Online Production Company

JBCR Virtual Solutions is an online ‘production company’. Or as others may call it a ‘virtual production company’. Let me explain.

Basically, a production company works with the visionary (client), who wants to start an online business. They may have an idea of what they want their online presence to look like, or they may know what they want it to say but have no visual view. They may have copy, but even if they do our ‘production company’ needs to work with them on their copy to optimize for their unique online business. Normally that is about all that is brought to the table – not always – but normally.

What we do, as an online production company, is when someone comes to us who wants to create an online business we work with them to create it from the ground up. This includes not only creating the website (their business visual), but also creating or editing current content for optimization, creating the ecommerce side of the business and working with the client on the pricing, packaging (graphics) and distribution or products (promotions and affiliates).

We are an all-in-one internet business production company.

Much more to come!

Internet Marketing - What Is A Sales Page, Squeeze Page, Landing Page?

Have you ever noticed the questions all come at the same time? Today I have a number of similar questions that made me thing it would be a good idea to put up these definitions. These are very 'brief' definitions!

Squeeze Page Definition: A Squeeze Page is a single web page that has one particular purpose, capturing names/emails for your list. So, in fact a Squeeze Page will give away 'freebie' in order to capture names. With the majority of Squeeze pages forms will be set-up with an auto-responder so, basally, once you have the page up it takes care of itself. This is also referred to as a Landing Page.

Sales Page Definition: A Sales Page is a single web page that has one particular purpose, selling one item. A Sales Page may also be called a Landing Page. Many sales pages have multiple up sells. When creating a sales page copy (remember the "W's") is as important as the product, as is the appearance of the sales page and your credibility.

Many people use the same term for these two pages when in fact, by definition they are different, though they don't have to be. Perhaps we should think of a new name for a combination page - how about "SQSal Page"?

Landing Page Definition: A web page that a visitor reaches after clicking an advertisement. If you don’t have an effective landing page for each and every ad campaign you undertake you're wasting money.

Being An Authority - Continued

I covered some areas last post, let's talk about more about how articles can help you.

Submitting "authority articles is highly recommend. There are many good ones out there such as Ezine Artilces, Go Articles, and in fact I have an article database as well here: http://www.babyboomersunited.com/BoomerArticles/ The great thing about good article sites is that their article pages actually rank highly and send highly qualified traffic.

Start a blog. I know I have said this over and over again, but you just can't beat it. Post often, with good content, link to your site(s), other blogs, comment on other blogs so they will link to you. Read more about blogs here: http://www.jbcr-virtualsolutions.com/tips-and-articles.html#Feed

I will cover more areas next time!

What's An Authoritative Website?

When I did some research on this topic what I found that this phrase covers everything from content to links to blogs to... For my purposes tonight, when looking at website that are selling products/services websites it is clear that some appeared 'authoritative' but many others did not. Sounds pretty general doesn't it. Let me explain.

Authoritative quality in a commercial website equals "success" because it raises your credibility to the visitor. In other words, if you are selling, for example, bonsai but only have the basics of what kind of Bonsai they are and the price, this does not give you/your website authoritative quality. If you are selling bonsai and you write about the care, watering, fertilizing, trimming, what you are doing is showing not only do you sell a product; in this case Bonsai, but that you are an authority of Bonsai. Which website do you think would make more sales?

When you look at selling a product/service, you can see that authority of the product/service can equal more revenue.

Easy Search Engine Optimization?

Is there such a thing? Well many, many website pages will tell you that you do not need to know any information, all you have to do is pay the 'big bucks' and they will get your website ranked at the top of the search engines. AND if you believe all those 'claims' I have a bridge to sell you BUT it is not cheap :)

Ok, let's get down to some basics here... SEO is not something you easily learn overnight, nor is it something that you can throw money at that will really work for you - IF - you want to make sure you are doing SEO legitimately. What does that mean?

There is:

White Hat (follows all the guidelines, terms, and conditions set forth by the search engines)

Gray Hat (follows the rules with a twist)

Black Hat (doesn't follow the search engines' rules - and buyer beware!!)

White Hat
~~~~~~~~~~
Optimize sites for competitive keywords, keyword phrases, not just in meta tags, but also in content, and succeed. And they succeed without resorting to spam tactics.
Gray Hat
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Optimizing sites but walking a fine line (though some report that Gray Hat is in fact Black Hat that are using techniques to achieve a white hat result)

- not quite keyword stuffing, but so close- not invisible text, but so far down on a page and the text is so light you may not see it

Black Hat
~~~~~~~~~
Optimization consists of techniques used to get higher search rankings that are illegal, unethical and clearly outside of the search engine guidelines.
- Doorway/gateway pages
- Cloaking
- Keyword Stuffing
- Invisible text
And much more.
